VINYL FLOORING

VERSATILE AND RESILIENT

The choice of material for your home flooring is very important. This is because the material you choose determines installation costs, ease of cleaning, and durability among others. The commonly used materials are tiles and wood. However, vinyl flooring is gaining popularity in Singapore probably due to its unique features and affordability. If you are a business owner or homeowner you'd consider using vinyl flooring in your property. Vinyl products are made using a strong PVC material. It's ideal for use on several floors that do not have heavy traffic. Read on to find out if it's the ideal flooring material you're looking for.

Types of Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl sheet flooring

the sheets measure 6 or 8 inches wide, while the length can be customized to suit the dimension of your house.

Vinyl plank flooring

measures 4 or 6 inches in width and 3 or 4 feet in length. Its installation is easier and has low maintenance costs

Vinyl tile flooring

they come in squares measuring 12 or 18 inches. This type offers uniform appearance of the floor. You can also easily replace damaged pieces.

How to Select Vinyl Flooring

The factors you should consider when selecting vinyl flooring include thickness, wear layer, color, and width.

Color and Patterns

In terms of color, you can opt for printed vinyl which is the most affordable. But this option gives you a surface that easily scratched. Inlaid vinyl has a wood-like appearance and is quite resistant to scratch. If you are working on a heavy traffic area, glued vinyl will be more suitable and it's good for permanent installation. Besides, it's resistant to scratch, slipping or peeling off, giving you value for its cost.

Thickness

For uneven floors, 5-8 mm thick planks will hide away any imperfections on your floor. Their appealing look is like that of real wood. Besides, they are highly durable. They are most suited for application on high traffic areas. A moderate traffic area such as your living room requires vinyl flooring of 3 2-4.0 mm thickness. These are moderately durable and less costly. In low traffic areas in your home, you can use 2-3 mm thickness. This is more affordable although it cannot hide imperfections on uneven floors.

Wear layer (top coating)

You should choose wear layers at least 20 mm or 0.02 inch thick for your high traffic areas like restaurants. Moderate traffic areas will require a wear layer of at least 10 mm (0.01"). A no-wax coat made of vinyl or urethane offers the most affordable option for wear layer. But this wears out really fast.

Width

It's advisable that you choose standard width planks as opposed to wider ones. This is because wider vinyl planks cannot sit well on uneven floors.

Areas Where Vinyl Flooring Is Suitable
Vinyl flooring is suitable for use on bathroom and kitchen floors due to its slip-resistant quality.  Its anti-microbial growth property makes vinyl flooring ideal for hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes. Other areas where you can apply vinyl flooring include bedrooms, offices, and schools.
Benefits of Vinyl Floors
Anti-microbial

Vinyl floors do not absorb moisture. In addition, there's no space left in between the tiles. These properties discourage growth of molds and bacteria.

Anti-slip and waterproof

Its slip-resistant characteristic makes vinyl flooring the material of choice on floors where water may spill. You don't have to worry about you or your loved ones slipping on bathroom floors. They feel quite comfortable under your feet.

Durability

The PVC material used for making vinyl flooring is strong. Therefore, floors made of vinyl last longer, giving you great value for your money. Vinyl flooring comes in a variety of designs and colors giving you numerous options to choose from.

Easy to clean and maintain

If soup or food spills on your vinyl made floor, you just need a damp cloth to wipe the stain clean.

Easy installation

Installation of vinyl takes a short time.
